After the succesful opening event of MobileMonday Madrid and the Mobile Web Applications topic covered in Barcelona, the next MobileMonday Madrid event on November 12 covers experiences from the UK Mobile Market. The UK has one of the most active emerging markets in next generation mobile data services, together with France, Germany, Italy and Spain. We want to learn about the experiences from some of the best positioned people in the UK Mobile industry and explore new market opportunities.

For this event we brought together Mike Short, VP Research and Development at O2 - Telefonica, Ray Anderson, CEO of Bango and Christopher Moisan of Taptu to share with us about their experiences and new business opportunities. The panel will be moderated by Ricardo Pérez from IE Business School.

Bio Speakers:

Mike Short, VP Research and Development at O2 - Telefonica (UK)
Mike’s career spans 33 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, with the last 20 years in Mobile Communications. He was appointed Contracts Director of Cellnet in 1989 dealing with major infra-structure investments and UK interconnect agreements. In 1993 the focus moved to launching Cellnet’s GSM service and establishing Roaming Agreements.

He was elected Chairman of the GSM Association for 1995/96 and served on their Executive Board for 5 years. He has also served as a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force and UK OSAB (Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board) until 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Mike has chaired the MDA since 1998, leading the Association as Chairman/spokesperson and on Public Policy. He was appointed VP Technology for O2 GROUP in 2000 and is now focusing on Third Generation cellular, Mobile TV and steering O2’s Group Research and Development in mobile.

Ray Anderson, CEO of Bango (UK)
Ray is Chief Executive of Bango, the business that uniquely enables content providers to market, deliver and sell their products and services directly to mobile phone users on all networks world-wide.

Ray co-founded Bango in 1999 after realizing that the convergence of the internet with the ubiquity of mobile phones could open up huge opportunities for content and service providers. Ray positioned the company to benefit from the opening up of the operator portals in 2004, and the transition of the mobile content business from a messaging model to a customer friendly browse and buy Internet model.

Ray is an entrepreneur, innovator and investor with 20 years experience. He was named “Technology Entrepreneur of the Year” in February 2006 and in September 2006 at the ME Awards was given a special award for outstanding contribution to the mobile entertainment industry. A member of “The Cambridge Angels”, Ray was a founding investor in a variety of growing companies including TeamStudio, Tenison Technology, Electronic Share Information (sold to E*Trade), Aspective, Trigenix (sold to Qualcomm), RE5ULT (82ASK), Shortfuze, Midentity and other technology businesses.

Christopher Moisan, VP of product & market development at Taptu
Chris has worked in telecommunications and digital media for over 15 years and has worked for some of world’s most innovative digital companies including Napster and The Guardian, a founding member of OgilvyInteractive (London) and also founded his own B2B networking service back in 1999.

Taptu is a new ’social assisted’ mobile search service which finds the most useful mobile content in the fewest possible clicks. Taptu unveiled the beta version of it’s service on Oct 15 at Mobile2.0 in San Francisco and Chris will share with us the story behind Taptu and social assisted search and give us some insights in to Taptu’s plans for the future
